Michael Kiernan Callahan, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and friend, died October 10th, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Portland, Oregon on February 3rd, 1956 to Jean and Idamay Callahan. He graduated from Grant High School in 1974, the University of Oregon in 1979 and then married Theresa Wanous on June 23rd of the same year.
Along with a love for family, he enjoyed golfing, riding bikes around Eugene and the Oregon coast, cheering on the Oregon Ducks, and taking road trips. He had an amazing heart and always found ways to make the people around him feel comfortable and loved. He was always finding ways to have fun and his creativity shined in the activities he would come up with.
He spent 24 years teaching for Portland Public Schools and was passionate about investing in the children and their community. He was a volunteer basketball coach at Kelly Elementary, operated the after-school program Junior Coaches, and also taught classes for the after-school program Sun School, providing positive environments where kids would learn to be creative and build leadership skills.
