John Stegen was born Dec. 24, 1934 in Shelby, Montana. He passed away on Saturday, April 1st at his residence in Mt. Angel. He was 82. The son of Olaf and Anna Stegen. He moved with his family from Montana to Canby, OR where he graduated from Canby High School. He was a member of the Canby FFA. He served in the US Army stationed in Germany from 1957 – 1959 doing maintenance on the Army vehicles. He was married to Carol Ann Holland, they later divorced. He was married to Carol Bush Alexander on June 10, 1978 in Elma, Washington and they made their home in Woodburn, OR. He had taught welding at Chemeketa, was a maintenance supervisor for General Foods and enjoyed traveling to other processing plants to help with maintenance before taking an early retirement. He then started Woodburn Truck Line with his friend, Bruce Gunderson. Having sold the business, he then worked for Speer & Sons Nursery doing mechanic maintenance. He loved to weld and in his early years enjoyed water skiing, and playing tennis. After retirement he traveled the United States and Europe and especially enjoyed visiting his fathers homeland in Norway. In addition to his beloved wife, Carol, of Mt. Angel, John is survived by his daughter, Dr. Kathryn (Brian) Kolibaba of Yacolt, WA; son, Kenneth (Debbie) Stegen of Woodburn; grandchildren, Tom (Ciani) Kolibaba, Oliver Stegen and Perry Carpenter; siblings, Clara Ray, Lillian Lewis, Helen Krieger, Martha Straatmeyer.
Preceded in death by parents and sisters, Ann Berk and Marie Wick.

Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. April 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at The Mount Angel Towers, Mt. Angel.
