A traditional service, as selected by most families in our area, consists of a family or public viewing of the deceased. Following this, typically will be a service held at the funeral home or church. This would be followed by earth burial or entombment in an above ground mausoleum.
Caskets selected may cost from hundreds dollars to several thousands of dollars depending on the material the casket is constructed of. Most cemeteries require an outer burial container or vault. These containers are constructed of concrete and are designed to hold the weight of the earth, maintaining the cemetery property. Most families choose a sealed vault for this purpose. These vaults are constructed of concrete and are designed to not only protect the gravesite, but are manufactured with inner liners that not only restrict the entrance of graveside elements (water and earth) but increase the strength of the vault. Minimum concrete containers are also available to meet the minimum requirements of the cemetery but provide no protective (sealing) properties.
A graveside service can be another option. This many times would follow a time of visitation at the funeral home. The casketed remains would then be transferred to the cemetery where a graveside ceremony could take place followed by the burial. A graveside service may also be held at a mausoleum.
A memorial service is held when the deceased is not present. It may take place at our funeral home, a church, or another place chosen by the family. This is a time to remember a loved one through fellowship with friends and family. The memorial service can also be an addition to a traditional funeral service. For instance, having a traditional funeral service here, and then memorial service back in the deceased’s hometown.
